I’ve been crafting natural lip balm, lipstick, and chapstick recipes for years. It took some time to nail down the exact recipe, but usually, I’d just estimate the ingredients, showing how simple it is to make!
This homemade lipstick recipe offers a creamy, full-coverage lip color. If you’re not a fan of colored lipsticks, you can skip the color to create a basic natural lip balm instead. The best part about making your makeup from scratch, like my DIY eyeshadow, is that you can customize it however you like!
Why bother making your own natural makeup, you might ask? Well, conventional lipsticks often contain harmful chemicals that can be easily absorbed since they’re used on the skin and near the mouth. By making your own lipstick, you can choose colors that are free from these chemicals, and it’s not expensive to do so either. Plus, homemade gifts carry a special touch—perfect for holidays or birthdays!
To achieve the shade shown in the photo, I used a tiny amount of beetroot powder (less than 1/8 tsp), 1/4 tsp cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp bentonite clay, 1/8 tsp cinnamon, and a drop of peppermint essential oil for fragrance. You can check out the recipe for other color options using natural ingredients.
If you prefer a darker shade, simply mix in a bit more cocoa powder until you get the desired tone.
Now, let’s dive into the recipe! It yields a moisturizing tube lipstick with plenty of pigments and coverage. For a lighter, shinier finish, try out this tinted lip balm recipe instead.
