At my house, we make most of our own personal care products, like deodorant and toothpaste. I’ve learned enough to know that regular shaving soaps can be quite toxic, so I used natural bar soap for a while. Eventually, I came up with my own shaving soap recipes that work better, leaving the skin soft without harmful chemicals.

This shave soap is what I mostly use in the shower because it’s simple, affordable, and effective. However, some men might find it a bit strong for facial use due to its high liquid castile content.
This formula lasts me about two months, though I haven’t tested it beyond that time. Avoid using citrus oils if you plan to be in the sun, as they can increase sun sensitivity. I use this recipe less frequently, mostly in the winter for extra moisture, but it creates a rich, creamy lather and performs wonderfully. It’s also gentler for men’s facial skin compared to the previous recipe.
If you don’t have all these ingredients on hand, there’s an easy way to tweak a regular bar soap to be more suitable for shaving. It takes a bit of time, but these bar soaps are long-lasting and ideal for making shave mugs if the men in your life use mugs and brushes for shaving.
