DIY Anti-Itch Relief Cream (Comparable to Calamine Lotion)

Kids and skin irritations often go hand in hand, especially in the summer with things like mosquito bites and poison ivy. Instead of reaching for traditional treatments, consider making your own natural anti-itch cream. This homemade remedy is a great alternative to calamine lotion and works just as well to soothe itchy skin. It’s made with natural ingredients that you can mix whenever you need a quick and effective solution.

If you already dabble in making natural remedies, you might have essentials like bentonite clay, witch hazel, essential oils, and baking soda at home. If not, it’s a good idea to start collecting these items. They can be used to create many money-saving remedies just as effective as store-bought options.

For an extra boost in your anti-itch cream (and perhaps to make your own sunscreen, too), you could add non-nano zinc oxide powder. This isn’t a common household item, so it’s okay to skip it. The bentonite clay alone will still provide excellent relief.

If you want to avoid making small batches frequently, you can prepare a larger amount by doubling or tripling the dry ingredients. Then, mix them with the wet ingredients only when you’re ready to use it. This might be especially useful if you’re dealing with widespread itchiness like a poison ivy rash.

I keep the pre-mixed powder in an empty spice jar or a small tin. When I need it, I shake some powder into a bowl and mix it with witch hazel just before applying.

Remember, while this recipe offers a natural approach, it’s not a substitute for professional medical advice. It’s best to consult your doctor for any concerns. Have you ever dealt with skin irritation? What worked for you? Feel free to share!
