I’ve always been someone who likes to shop smart and do things myself. Regardless of my budget, I actually enjoy shopping for the kids at consignment sales because the clothes feel more natural than new ones. When it comes to decorating my home, I’m not the type to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars on art. In fact, my house is mostly adorned with canvas prints of family photos and some creative stick art.
While I admire friends who beautifully decorate their homes with art, I’ve never excelled in that area. I prefer to keep things simple so it actually gets done! Recently, when we moved, I faced a dilemma with this big blank 18-foot wall. It’s the backdrop behind my desk and pops up in every video I make for the blog, so it definitely needed something, but I wasn’t sure what.
Finally, I decided that the wall should feature three quotes that inspire me in both business and life. I initially checked out Etsy shops and art stores for custom wall quotes, but then I realized I could create similar art by ordering poster prints from Mixbook and using some budget-friendly editing tools like PicMonkey.
I made some hanging quote art that looks like a scroll by mounting naturally distressed 1 x 2 boards. For each wall quote, I used a straightforward technique.
Here are the quotes I chose. If any resonate with you, feel free to recreate them!
– People can be unreasonable and self-centered; forgive them anyway.
– If you are kind, you might be accused of selfish intentions; be kind anyway.
– Success may gain you false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway.
– Honesty might lead others to cheat you; stay honest and frank anyway.
– Your hard work over years could be destroyed overnight; build anyway.
– Finding peace and happiness can make others jealous; be happy anyway.
– Today’s good deeds might be forgotten tomorrow; do good anyway.
– Give the world your best, even if it’s not enough; give it anyway.
– Ultimately, it’s between you and God, not anyone else.
Remember, the credit goes to those who are in the arena, striving towards goals despite failures. What matters is daring greatly, never settling with those who know neither victory nor defeat.
In a couple of decades, you’ll regret not the things you tried, but the ones you didn’t. So, abandon the safe, explore, dream, and discover.
This is a simple way to add custom art to your home using quotes that hold personal significance. What’s your favorite quote or saying? Share them below and let us know why they inspire you!
