Finding a good natural dishwasher detergent can be tricky. While homemade detergents can be effective, getting the right mix is crucial. There are several great options, but figuring out which ones are truly effective can be challenging.
Here’s what I use at home:
For homemade dishwasher detergent, I have a recipe that works, though it can clump, especially in high humidity. The benefit is that it’s straightforward, budget-friendly, and you know exactly what’s in it. However, it might leave some residue, depending on your water and the washing temperature.
I also frequently use Tropical Traditions Powdered Dish Detergent. This all-natural enzyme cleaner is safer than many commercial alternatives. A single canister lasts over a month at my home, sometimes longer. Although it costs a bit more, it provides excellent cleaning and lasts longer than other natural choices.
Another good natural detergent is Ecover Powder. It’s widely accessible and performs well without being significantly more expensive than regular brands. I found its cleaning power to be on par with Tropical Traditions, and I’m happy with either.
Mrs. Myers is another brand I’ve tested that cleans effectively. It comes in different natural scents and is available in many local stores. It’s pricier than the other natural options, yet it delivers great results.
While I prefer making my own products, finding a homemade dishwasher detergent that works well with your specific water type and dishwasher can be tough. If homemade options haven’t panned out for you, the three powdered detergents I mentioned have worked well for me and are ones I would consider using again. Most often, I rely on Tropical Traditions, although it’s only available online, whereas the other two can be found in local stores.
