Pregnancy is such an exciting time! From discovering you’re pregnant to going through the various stages (some are more enjoyable than others) until the birth of your child, there’s so much to learn and experience. Some couples wait until the second trimester to share their news, while others can’t wait to tell everyone right away. If you’re pregnant (congratulations!) and looking for a fun way to break the news to family and friends, here are a few ideas:
I’ve always wanted to announce my pregnancies with a funny music video, but I didn’t have the best singing voice, and my “Chandler Bing face” tends to appear on camera. However, if you have a great singing voice and are comfortable on camera, a pregnancy announcement video could be a fun idea. Check out some of the creative announcement videos out there.
Photo announcements are also a popular choice. From the classic ultrasound picture (although some prefer to avoid ultrasounds unless medically necessary), to the iconic shoe photos, or even a clever picture of mom holding a jar of “Prego” pasta sauce, you have plenty of options. For a humorous twist, you might feature dad passed out after seeing a positive test or holding two ice bags while mom points to her belly, playing on the “Ice, Ice Baby” theme. There are countless ways to announce with a photo.
In the past, we’ve had our older kids share the news, which turned out to be a sweet way to tell the family. If you have a first child and pets, you can have fun with that! For example, have a pet “reading” a book on pregnancy. When we were expecting our last child, we used a funny quiz online, revealing the announcement in a video at the end.
For bloggers, your blog can be a creative platform for sharing the news. We’re expecting our sixth child in February, and we’re thrilled! I have stories from my previous pregnancies if you’re interested.
I should clarify that although I write about pregnancy topics, my blog won’t solely focus on that. I do plan to cover some pregnancy, birth, and fertility-related topics that many have asked about recently. If you’re pregnant or planning to be, check out my pregnancy-related posts, including one on the prenatal care choices I made and my favorite books on pregnancy.
Although this is my sixth pregnancy, I’m doing something new this time—I’m taking a birth class. As a first-time mom, I took various classes but realized that managing labor pain and staying relaxed were my main challenges. Despite having experienced childbirth and assisted as a doula, I still get anxious about labor. My friend Genevieve, aka Mama Natural, offers a birth course with a doula and midwife-in-training, featuring expert advice, couple input, and lots of medical research. Her course includes a community of moms aiming for a joyful, natural birth and plenty of valuable information, with bonus workout videos that I’m enjoying.
If you’re pregnant or hope to be soon, you might want to consider joining me in this online birth course. Otherwise, feel free to follow my pregnancy journey on my blog (and maybe even some parts of my labor if my husband manages to get me to broadcast it!).
