When I was a little girl, I always dreamed about visiting that magical place called the spa. I didn’t really know what people did there, but it seemed like somewhere adults went to unwind. It took me until adulthood, already with a few kids of my own, to finally make it to a spa. It was indeed relaxing, but because of the time and money involved, it wasn’t something I could do regularly.
I loved how my skin felt after a spa visit, so I wanted to find a way to recreate that feeling at home without spending so much time or money. My childhood hobby of making homemade beauty products became the answer. I experimented with some of the recipes used at the spa and developed this face mask, which has become one of my favorites.
During a podcast with skin expert Dr. Trevor Cates, she mentioned that our skin is naturally slightly acidic and needs low pH skincare products to stay healthy and elastic. I already use Vitamin C on my skin with a homemade serum, and I decided to combine it with honey, another ingredient that supports skin health. I also added organic brown sugar for a gentle scrub and a drop of lavender oil to soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.
If you’re feeling extra motivated, you can follow this mask with a drop of Vitamin C serum or a diluted apple cider vinegar toner.
For those dealing with acne, this mask might be beneficial. Honey has natural antibacterial properties that can help reduce acne, Vitamin C can balance the skin’s pH and potentially minimize breakouts, and lavender is anti-inflammatory, often recommended for acne. If you opt for Vitamin C powder instead of lemon juice, this mask can last several months. I like to mix a triple batch and keep it in a small jar in the bathroom for use every few days.
