Shea Butter Solid Moisturizing Stick

Shea Butter Solid Moisturizing Stick

I’m really into natural skincare products. Back in college, my bathroom was overflowing with hair products, skincare items, and makeup, most of which contained a lot of chemicals. Now, I’ve switched to natural alternatives, and while I still have a lot of products (which my husband isn’t thrilled about), they’re now in glass jars and contain ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and honey—things you could actually eat.

Lotion bars are some of my favorites. They’re easier to use than regular lotion, especially now that I make them in plastic deodorant containers for easy application. In the fall, I particularly enjoy shea butter lotion because it naturally protects the skin from dry, cool weather and is believed to help boost natural collagen production. In many cultures, it’s a trusted remedy for maintaining youthful skin, and it truly leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft.

I like adding my favorite essential oils to these lotions for a nourishing all-over skin treatment. While I don’t use it on my face because it tends to be oily already, I know many women who apply shea butter there and find it works great. This method makes it easy to apply, too.

Just a note: this recipe makes enough for one 4-ounce lotion bar tube. If you prefer a firmer lotion bar, use more beeswax. If you want a smoother one, add more coconut or olive oil.

Here are a few other skin care recipes I love that use natural ingredients. Have you ever tried making your own skin care products? What did you create?
