Crafting Your Own Lotion Bar Sticks

Crafting Your Own Lotion Bar Sticks

Lotion bars are basically solid versions of body lotion, resembling soap bars but meant for use on dry skin. I’ve created several variations of my original lotion bar recipe, which has been quite popular.

One issue people sometimes face with lotion bars is that they can be tricky to apply and store. I discovered a solution after making my own deodorant using deodorant containers; these containers are perfect for lotion bars too. Now, I use deodorant tubes for the lotion bars, making them more convenient to store and use. They also make great gifts and can easily be customized.

For the lotion bar recipe, I order the ingredients in bulk (at least 5 pounds), which makes them more affordable. However, you only need about 4 ounces of each ingredient for this recipe, and I usually have coconut oil at home. If you’re not nearby, shipping can get pricey through some suppliers, but I’ve noticed that Amazon now offers good options for these ingredients. Just be sure to pick unrefined, organically sourced ones.

Lotion bars should only be used on dry skin and aren’t for the tub or shower. Simply rub a thin layer over your skin as often as needed. They aren’t sunscreens but do offer a natural SPF of about 5, which is nice for light sun exposure. The tubes make application on kids or babies super easy.

If you’re interested in lotion bars but don’t have the time or ingredients to make them yourself, I’ve found a wonderful small business called Made On. They create a variety of lotion bars, soaps, and natural products for babies and hair that meet my standards. You can find them at HardLotion.com.

Have you ever made your own lotion bars at home? Thinking of trying it out? Let me know!
