A Closer Look at Mountain Rose Herbs

A Closer Look at Mountain Rose Herbs

I started making my own beauty products, cleaning solutions, and spice blends years ago when I was on a tight budget and beginning to raise my family. It became clear that creating these myself was the best way to save money and dodge harmful chemicals.

For a long time, I mostly bought from Mountain Rose Herbs (MRH) where they offer a broad range of products from organic herbs to tinctures and carrier oils. Although I now explore other companies, MRH still remains a commendable choice for many. Here’s my take on their pros and cons.

In the DIY and natural health community, Mountain Rose Herbs is quite well-known. If you aren’t familiar, MRH sells a diverse array of herbal products, essential oils, and bulk herbs. They also offer supplements, herbal teas, and skincare products like salves. Based in Eugene, Oregon, the company was founded in 1987 by the famous herbalist Rosemary Gladstar. Over the years, they’ve changed ownership but continue to focus on quality products and maintain a good reputation. Since 2010, they’ve been fair trade certified, and they provide educational resources for those interested in herbs and natural remedies.

I relied heavily on MRH for a long time, especially for dried herbs. All their products are sustainably sourced and grown with strict quality checks. They offer such a wide variety of herbs that even the rare ones are available. Since 1999, all their products have been certified organic with a focus on sustainability.

Their range also includes essential oils and aromatherapy products, which are all certified organic. They have convenient pre-diluted roller bottle blends for topical use and carry diffusers, natural perfumes, and hydrosols. Anything related to essential oils, they’ve got it.

If DIY isn’t your thing or you don’t have the time, MRH offers a variety of body care products, from bar soaps to face washes and herbal hair dyes. They even have a product line specifically for babies and young children.

While there are many reasons to order from Mountain Rose Herbs, we should also consider the downsides for a balanced view. Here’s what I found about their cons: they have a wide selection and quality standards, but there are other companies that might offer more affordable products with quicker delivery times. For instance, I often find organic items on Amazon and prefer Plant Therapy for essential oils.

Mountain Rose Herbs does have occasional sales, which are great if you’re buying in bulk. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed many of their products and appreciate their commitment to high-quality sourcing and sustainable practices. However, I always advise doing your own research and choosing companies that align with your values and quality expectations.
