Sometimes, the best things in life come for free or are really budget-friendly, like this natural glass cleaner recipe. I’ve tried out a bunch of natural cleaners over time and have finally found ones that work just as well—or even better—than the regular stuff you buy at the store.
My journey to a natural glass cleaner started when I saw my one-year-old licking a window. I had no idea what was in my usual glass cleaner, but I definitely didn’t want her ingesting it. Plus, with several little ones in my home who are pro at getting fingerprints everywhere, cleaning windows is often a daily task!
Creating this DIY glass cleaner recipe was a breeze after an elderly neighbor clued me in to using vinegar. It seems that folks in the past used it all the time, and we’ve just taken a while to catch on. It’s funny how things come full circle!
While I sometimes use natural cleaners that I buy from the store now, it’s hard to beat a quick and easy recipe with items you already have at home. It saves money and it’s always ready when needed.
The best part is that this cleaner is non-toxic, so I can let my kids help with cleaning without worrying about exposing them to harmful chemicals. I even keep small glass spray bottles and cleaning rags in a basket in our pantry. My 4 and 5-year-olds now have the daily job of cleaning the lower parts of the windows.
I’ve also found larger glass spray bottles which I prefer. You can make one yourself by repurposing an empty glass apple cider vinegar bottle with a spray top.
The cleaner may have a strong smell at first, but it completely disappears once it dries. I no longer use microfiber cloths for wiping down windows, as there are better options like old newspapers or t-shirts. Just skip the paper towels since they leave lint behind.
