DIY Soothing Spray for Itch Relief

DIY Soothing Spray for Itch Relief

Oh, summer, how I adore you! There’s nothing quite like picking up fresh veggies at the farmer’s market or enjoying delicious peach cobbler, and spending quality time with family through various fun activities. It’s almost the perfect season… if only it weren’t for pesky mosquitoes, random poison ivy encounters, or those itchy, peeling sunburns!

Thankfully, a homemade bug spray usually keeps most mosquitoes at bay, and homemade sunscreen helps prevent those burns. But still, someone often forgets to use one or the other, ending up with itchy, irritated skin.

Personally, I’m a magnet for mosquitoes, so even a few minutes of quick activities outside, like cutting the boys’ hair or taking out the trash, leave me with several bites.

What’s the fix? This anti-itch spray works because it’s packed with powerful natural remedies that stop itchiness right away. I’ve tried it on everything from mosquito and chigger bites to poison ivy, sunburn, and even nettle stings, always with great results.

The key ingredient here is menthol crystals. I use these cooling and soothing crystals in my pain relief lotion bars and shower melts for cold relief. Menthol is a natural remedy often found in salves, balms, mouthwashes, and other treatments.

I make this spray in a 4-ounce bottle, but you can easily adjust the recipe to fit your container. Just spray it on itchy spots and let it dry. It can be stored at room temperature for months, though I prefer to keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect on the skin.

Important note: If pregnant or using on children, you might consider skipping the essential oils, but it’s always best to check with your doctor if you’re pregnant or have medical conditions.

If you don’t have all the ingredients on hand when the itch strikes, there are simple natural alternatives. While this spray is my go-to for annoying bug bites, I’ve also been introduced to the Bug Bite Thing. Just place it over the bite, pull up to suction out the irritants, and relieve the itch!

Have you ever battled with itchy skin? What solutions have worked for you?
