I don’t consume grains much, but they still come in handy, especially for skincare. This oatmeal lavender facial scrub is great for soothing and calming the skin while gently exfoliating it. It’s perfect for sensitive skin but works well for any skin type.
The main ingredients for this scrub are pretty straightforward. If you prefer not to DIY, there’s a fantastic handmade option from Crunchy Betty that I use when I’m not in the mood to make it myself.
Though you won’t find rolled oats on my breakfast table, oatmeal is an affordable and natural skincare option. People have been using oats for skin care for about 4,000 years. When oats are finely ground, they turn into what’s known as colloidal oatmeal.
The New Zealand Dermatological Society outlines the many proven benefits of oatmeal for skin. It’s no surprise that colloidal oatmeal appears in so many skincare products.
Lavender is hands down one of my favorite herbs, and I’ve shared more about it before. This facial scrub recipe uses both lavender flowers and lavender essential oil to help calm and heal the skin. The flowers provide extra exfoliation, while the essential oil adds its powerful benefits and an amazing scent.
I’ve included a little baking soda and sea salt to enhance the scrub’s exfoliating power. Baking soda is a very fine powder, similar to microdermabrasion, and it gently exfoliates the skin. Sea salt is coarser, but only a small amount is used, so it doesn’t overwhelm the other ingredients. I prefer Himalayan sea salt for its rich variety of minerals that nourish the skin.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite beauty recipes, and I think you’re going to love it too!
