Recipe for a Luxurious Skin-Enhancing Massage Oil

Recipe for a Luxurious Skin-Enhancing Massage Oil

In our family, we try to prioritize giving experiences rather than physical gifts when we can. This often means museum memberships, scavenger hunts, or movie tickets. However, this year my husband surprised me with something truly amazing: a couples massage video course. The course, taught by an award-winning massage therapist, provides couples with easy-to-follow massage techniques they can practice at home.

Since back massages are my favorite way to relax, this gift has been one of the best I’ve received. If you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea for your partner, this massage course is a fantastic option!

The course suggests using natural oils like almond oil for massages. This works great, but you can also personalize a massage oil for your skin and relaxation preferences. I’ll share my favorite blend below, but a good massage oil should include these elements:

There are many excellent choices for a base or carrier oil. If you have the time, you can enhance the carrier oil with skin-nourishing herbs for added fragrance and benefits. A simple method to do this is solar infusing, although it takes 2-4 weeks. If you’re short on time, you can achieve similar results in a day using a slow cooker or double boiler.

Essential oils are another great addition for enhancing the carrier oil with beneficial compounds. It’s crucial to ensure that any oils you add are safe for the skin. Essential oils concentrate the good elements from plants and can be therapeutic when used correctly. They also add a pleasant aroma to massage oils.

Combining infused herbs with essential oils is ideal. However, it’s always best to consult a qualified aromatherapist to ensure that any essential oils you use are safe for topical application. Always test a small patch of skin to check for allergies or reactions before applying it more widely.

Generally, it’s advised not to use essential oils internally or on the skin during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. If you’re pregnant or applying oils on children, consult a doctor or midwife first.

What’s your favorite oil to use on your skin? Have you ever taken a massage course to use on your partner?
